About our schools
The AEJM is a school cluster from Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal. It is one of the most important historical cities in the country. It is close to Porto. The Historic Center of Guimarães was considered a World Heritage Site in 2001, the city was also named the European Capital of Culture in 2012, and became the European City of Sport, in 2013, making it definitely one of the largest tourist centers in the region. Guimarães is part of the “Green City Accord”, the European Union's environmental commitment to greener cities. The Green City Accord is a movement of European mayors committed to making cities cleaner and healthier. It aims to improve the quality of life for all Europeans and accelerate the implementation of relevant EU environmental laws. By signing the Accord, cities commit to addressing five areas of environmental management: air, water, nature and biodiversity, circular economy and waste, and noise. Guimarães is committed to reinforcing measures to make the territory greener, cleaner and healthier, supporting the implementation of the European Green Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The school cluster includes three educational establishments attended by students aged between 3 and 15 years old and has two Learning Support Centers, which comprise two Specialized Support Units for the Teaching of Students with Multiple Disabilities. We are a public inclusive school. We welcome refugees and immigrants. The school has a multidisciplinary team made up of teachers from different areas and psychologists. It has a High-Performance Unit “UAARE”, for high-performance sports students, to reconcile school success with the sports practice of high-potential student-athletes.
The headquarter institution is Escola EB 2,3 Professor João de Meira with students between 10 and 15 years old. It is a dynamic school, with great concern for the environment and which participates in several projects. Sustainability is our flag.
With rigor, honor, and dedication we will achieve individual and collective academic success, we will significantly fulfill the essential learnings and we will advance on the path traced by the "17 Sustainable Development Goals" of the UN 2030 Agenda, by the "Digital Compass 2030" of the Commission Union and the OECD's "Learning Compass 2030".
The AEJM wants to create the right skills and values in its students as complete and active human beings, concerned with the well-being of others and helping to build an inclusive society.
